Hope every one is Doing good!!! Am here to share my experience that i have on the highways in south africa. I stay in a place named Centurion and my place of work is in Johannesburg.
Centurion (previously called as Verwoerdburg) is a town in Gauteng Province of South Africa, located between Pretoria and Midrand (Johannesburg). It is located at the intersection of the N1 and N14 highways. The R21 highway also passes through Centurion. This place is located on the highveld which has a similar climate to Pretoria and Johannesburg , with dry, sunny winters (max daytime temperature around 20°C dropping to a crisp average minimum of -2°C) , and warm to hot summers (October – April) tempered by late-afternoon showers often accompanied by spectacular thunder and lightning. Summer temperatures range from the mid 20’s to the mid 30’s (°Celsius). Also my place of stay is pretty nearer to the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium and Centurion Shopping Mall.
Johannesburg is the provincial capital of Gauteng, and it is considered to be the wealthiest province in South Africa. It is located 35km south of centurion. My workplace (Imperial Bank) is located in Achter Street right after the Rivonia road exit from N1 highway.
The first day to work…….. hooooooooo hooooooooooooo!!! I was so excited, when i got the keys to My Solutions Mercedez Benz C220 Automatic. It was a bit tough day as well, after driving a car in india closer to 10 years without following most of the Road/Traffic Rules :-). I followed my colleagues car to work and finally reached the destination in time, though i missed my colleagues car at one place.
On my first day at work, i met my Lotus Notes Manager (George) and luckily he stays in centurion as well, 4 to 5 km away from my place. A little bit about George, very cool guy with a very good family and a great house. George drives a Toyota Camry, though he is a Big fan of mercedez. Enough about George, will talk about him in my future blogs. So lets go back to what happened on the first day, George let me follow his car to his house so that i dont get lost anywhere in the highway. After i reached George’s place, i store his address in the GPS. That was the first time i had learned how to use a GPS in my life. From then on we travel together to work and we do a bit of a cost cutting by drving each of our cars every alternate weeks. 🙂
